Ali Reef is a reef dive site located off Tomia Island in Wakatobi, reached by boat in under 30 minutes from Waha Harbor. The site is built around a seamount with a flat peak connected by a deep ridge to a long valley of table corals, with a maximum depth of 30 m. Gorgonians dominate the shallower sections of the seamount, while larger soft corals in brilliant colours take over along the deeper ridge, and vivid yellow sun corals (tubastraea) stand out throughout the structure.
Marine life at Ali Reef is abundant and varied. Giant trevally gather in tornado-like schools, and the site also hosts sea turtles, reef sharks, and a dense variety of smaller fish across the reef. The structure supports strong populations of gorgonians, soft corals, and sun corals.
All diving here is by boat, and the site is considered challenging, suited to advanced and experienced divers. Currents can be very strong during rising tides, so timing the dive with the tidal cycle is essential — consult a dive guide before entering. Early morning dives may require a torch due to limited sunlight at depth. Water temperature ranges between 26–30°C depending on season.
