Davis Reef is a shallow coral reef located within the Davis Reef Special Protection Area (SPA) off Islamorada in the Florida Keys. The reef features spur-and-groove formations with coral ridges and channels, a slight ledge lined with sea fans, and numerous overhangs. Depths run from around 15 to 20 feet (roughly 4.5 to 6 metres) at the shallowest points, with deeper ledges extending further down. A notable landmark is an underwater Buddha shrine decorated with conch shells, a well-known stop for divers passing through. The reef is also home to a coral outplanting and monitoring project.
Marine life at Davis Reef includes Southern stingrays, nurse sharks, and sea turtles, which are particularly active after dark, making this a popular night dive destination. Porkfish, French grunts, and lobsters are regularly seen among the coral ridges and channels, and green moray eels, gorgonians, sea rods, sea whips, sea feathers, and sea fans are present throughout the reef structure.
Conditions are generally calm, with good visibility and clear water that suits photography along the coral ridges. Water temperature ranges from 24 to 29°C across the year. The site is rated beginner level, and the shallow depth allows for long, relaxed bottom times.
