The Pinnacle is Ponta do Ouro's signature dive site, an exposed offshore pinnacle that rises from 30 metres to roughly 5 metres below the surface. It functions as a manta ray cleaning station, with cleaner wrasse working the reef top while mantas circle, hover, and return for multiple passes — activity that peaks during the warmer months from November through March. Grey reef sharks, kingfish, potato bass, barracuda, and schooling fish patrol the deeper edges of the structure.
The dive is rated intermediate to advanced, not because of depth at the top, but because current and surge can change quickly around the exposed pinnacle. Divers need to descend promptly on arrival, stay close to their guide, and manage gas carefully. In stronger conditions the site is best left to advanced divers. Access is by beach launch through the surf in a rigid-hull inflatable, typical of diving at Ponta do Ouro.
When current is running, it dictates the route around the structure. Blue water and sudden arrivals of large animals are part of what defines the site when conditions align. Morning dives generally offer the most manageable surface conditions. The nearest fully equipped hyperbaric facility is treated as Durban, roughly four to five hours away by road, so conservative profiles and appropriate dive insurance are strongly advised.
