Playa Lagun, also known as Turtle Bay, is a small, enclosed bay on the west coast of Curaçao, managed under the CARMABI Marine Park. The bay's sheltered shape keeps the water calm even on windy days, making it one of the most accessible shore-diving and snorkelling spots on the island. Entry is from a small pebble beach directly into the bay.
The reef begins at 4 metres depth and extends down to around 10 metres, where green sea turtles are regularly spotted grazing on sponges and coral. Unlike some other turtle sites on the island, the turtles here feed naturally rather than on fishermen's scraps, so their behaviour tends to be relaxed and unhurried. Snorkellers can track them from the surface as they move through the reef.
Water temperature stays between 26 and 29 °C year-round, visibility is reliably good, and currents are light within the enclosed bay. The site suits beginners and families; the calm conditions and shallow reef make it manageable for newer divers and snorkellers alike. Afternoon visits are worth considering, as the turtles are often more relaxed when fewer people are in the water. If bringing gear, a spare mask strap is advisable since the pebble beach can damage equipment.
