San Clemente is a reef dive site in Cozumel, part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef system, reaching a maximum depth of around 50 ft (15 m) with the shallowest point at roughly 20 ft (6 m). The terrain is defined by lush coral formations and coral gardens, making it a popular choice for macro photography and close-up reef exploration.
The reef holds diverse marine life including various fish species, occasional rays, trumpetfish, and moray eels that camouflage within the reef structure. The site is consistently noted as a strong choice for macro life and underwater photography.
Conditions at San Clemente are generally beginner-friendly, with mild to moderate currents and excellent visibility. The relaxed diving profile suits all experience levels, from new divers to those specifically seeking a calm environment for photography and leisurely reef exploration.
Diving in Cozumel is boat-based, with short boat rides of roughly 10–25 minutes to reef systems. Once underwater, divers drift with the current while a guide navigates the reef, a format standard across Cozumel sites. Water temperature ranges from around 78°F (26°C) in winter to 86°F (30°C) in summer.
