Tormentos is a reef off Cozumel, Mexico, usually dived as a second dive. The depth is 15 to 18 m (50 to 60 ft). It is a large area of flat sandy bottom with big blocks of coral scattered around, and the reef heads stand 6 to 9 m (20 to 30 ft) high, separated by sandy valleys and dunes pushed up by the prevailing currents. Sand channels from the neighbouring Yucab reef lead divers toward Tormentos.
Currents are mild to moderate, usually running from south to north, though one account gives north to south. The reef is healthy and colourful.
Giant parrotfish, pipefish, yellowhead jawfish, moray eels and many crustaceans live here, with splendid toadfish hiding in the sand. Turtles, groupers, snappers, French grunts, nurse sharks, angelfish and southern stingrays are also noted around the sandy areas. Spiny lobsters and crabs show up too, and from November to March large schools of spotted eagle rays pass through.
