Two Mile Reef is the most popular and most frequently dived reef in Sodwana Bay, South Africa, inside the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. It lies about 2 nautical miles (3.2 km) from Jesser Point, the closest reef to the launch, and spans about 1.8 km by 900 m. Roughly twenty well-known dive sites lie on it.
The reef changes from flat and sandy on the offshore side to pinnacles, swim-throughs, caves, cliffs, big sand patches and ledges, with a wide variety of corals. Depths range from about 12 to 30 metres, with shallower sites of 6 to 12 metres suited to training. Plate coral is delicate, so watch your fins. It is suitable for all certification levels, from Open Water to Advanced.
Life is dense, with a diver seeing around 200 fish within a 5 metre radius on average. There are tiny shrimps and decorator crabs, paperfish, pipefish, scorpionfish, seahorses and more than 400 documented nudibranch species. Green, hawksbill and loggerhead turtles, moray eels, lionfish, octopus, leaf fish and shoals of snapper, fusiliers and goatfish are found. Larger animals include potato bass, brindle bass, marbled leopard groupers and many kinds of ray, including manta rays.
