Avana Passage is a broad, sandy passage opening from the Avana lagoon in the Cook Islands, running from a depth of 12 m down to 20 m. The bottom is sand, dotted with large coral formations, and the passage ends in a steep drop-off. Several channels branch off for exploration, and the edge of the passage opens into deep blue open water.
The site suits all levels of diver, including beginners, though the drop-off and deeper blue water also offer something for more experienced divers. Marine life is plentiful throughout the passage, and sharks may be spotted in the deeper open water at the seaward end.
