Big Rock is a reef dive site named after the large lava rock outcroppings visible on the nearby shore. The top of the reef sits at 3–4.5 metres (10–15 feet), with a sandy bottom that slopes down relatively quickly to between 18–27 metres (60–90 feet), reaching a maximum depth of 27.4 metres.
The site is particularly well suited to spotting cryptic and sand-dwelling species. Flounder, sea horses, pipe fish, pipe horses, garden eels, stingrays, and upside-down jellyfish are regularly found here, and patient divers occasionally turn up stargazers and flying gurnards as well. Caribbean spiny lobsters are also present at the site.
Big Rock is rated suitable for beginners, making it a good choice for newer divers wanting to practise observation skills on a gently sloping reef with an accessible shallow section.
