Halibut Point is an advanced shore dive in New England, with deep water within reach of the beach. Within a quarter-mile of the shore, depths of 100 feet (30 metres) can be reached.
The terrain mirrors the shoreline, a mix of granite slab and boulders cascading into the depths. The area attracts schools of large fish from striper to dogfish, and larger animals such as basking sharks have been reported here. The rocks also hold the Northern Red anemone.
The site is considered one of the most challenging shore dives in New England, and it is exposed enough that it can be washed out quite easily.
