Tajiguas is a shore-entry snorkel and dive site on a rocky reef located roughly 20 miles north of Santa Barbara, California, adjacent to Refugio State Beach along Highway 101 near the coast heading toward San Luis Obispo. The site takes its name from a Chumash Indian village that once stood near Tajiguas Creek. It is an undeveloped beach with free parking.
The bottom at Tajiguas is rocky reef, and while fish numbers in the inshore reefs are lower than at nearby sites, the rocks are well covered with anemones and nudibranchs, making it a rewarding spot for close-up photography.
Entry is from shore at an uncrowded beach, and the site is considered suitable for beginners. Its relaxed, away-from-the-crowds character makes it a good choice for snorkelers and photographers looking for calm, accessible conditions without heavy visitor pressure.
