Batu Kapal, Ship Rock, lies northwest of Pulau Pisang in the Banda Islands. It has interesting topography with enormous gorgonian fans and barrel sponges. The west and north sides are walls with enormous orange gorgonians and barrel sponges, and the south side has deep purple ellisella and coral fans with large schools of midnight snapper and bigeye bream.
A cylindrical pinnacle to the northwest holds potato cod, moray eels, rainbow runners, longnose emperor, grey reef sharks and yellowtail barracuda. Fields of small orange coral bushes and violet-blue tunicates shelter honeycomb morays, masses of red-tooth triggerfish and black-lip butterflyfish.
Currents are strong, and when the current is running, Batu Kapal abounds in large pelagic fish.
