Cuevitas is a shallow reef dive located off Tulum, Mexico, whose name translates to "Little Caves" — a reference to the numerous swim-throughs that define the site. The maximum depth is 10 m (33 ft), reached at the starting point, with most of the dive conducted at around 8 m (24 ft). The reef has two levels, running from 6 m to 12 m, and is characterised by passages and swim-throughs threading through healthy coral formations that include brain coral, giant star coral, and gorgonians.
The reef holds a solid population of benthic fish species including angelfish, parrotfish, butterflyfish, and gobies, along with lobsters. Turtles and stingrays appear occasionally as surprises, and manatees have been spotted at the site on rare occasions.
The site is reached by a short boat ride of approximately 10 minutes from shore. Visibility varies considerably with sea conditions: on calm days it reaches 30 m (90 ft), dropping to around 10 m (30 ft) when the sea is rough. Current can be strong. Dive times typically run between 30 and 50 minutes depending on the diver. The site is rated suitable for beginners.
