Koh Chan is a small, reef-lined island in the southern part of the Samae San archipelago, near Pattaya in the Eastern Gulf of Thailand. The site features sandy slopes, coral bommies, and shallow reef transitions, with depths ranging from 5 m to 18 m. Coral-covered headlands, outer boulders, and coral slopes give the underwater terrain varied relief, while the island's southern exposure keeps conditions calm and protected.
Marine life at Koh Chan leans strongly toward macro species. Regular encounters include stingrays, cuttlefish, moray eels, pufferfish, yellow boxfish, flounders, clownfish, nudibranchs, shrimp gobies, decorator crabs, seahorses, and ornate shrimp. Anemones host clownfish across the shallower reef, and schooling fusiliers and butterflyfish are common in open water. Blacktip reef sharks have also been reported patrolling the shallow coral reef and sandy channels.
Conditions at Koh Chan are well suited to newer divers. Water temperature stays between 28–30 °C, current is light, and visibility is good. The best diving falls within the dry season, November through May. The calm, protected exposure and shallow bays make the site a practical training ground for entry-level certifications, while the outer boulder and slope sections offer slightly more involved profiles when seasonal currents pick up.
Koh Chan is rated beginner-level and is reached by boat. The site's accessibility and low traffic compared with other Samae San islands make it a consistent choice for slow, photography-focused dives.
