Broken Bottom is a boat dive on part of the old shoreline, 2 km north-west of Glenelg in South Australia. A series of naturally formed rock piles spreads across a large area in about 10 m of water. Access is by boat from the West Beach boat ramp, and it is suitable for open water divers. The rock piles sit on what was once the shore, now under 10 m of water.
Fish life ranges from sparse to prolific, with no set pattern. When it is sparse, you can investigate the rock piles, sea tulips and razor shells. At other times the whole dive can be spent swimming among schools of old wives and bullseyes, with the occasional yellowfin whiting. Many spider crabs live here, and rays and flatheads are sometimes found.
