Buddha Rock is a dive site in Chalok Bay on the southwest coast of Koh Tao, Thailand, named after a large rock formation whose shape many people liken to a seated Buddha. The rock is visible from Chalok Beach and surrounding viewpoints, and the dive site beneath it sits within easy reach of shore by boat. Artificial reef structures have been deployed around the site over the years to provide additional habitat for reef fish and support coral ecosystem recovery, and the site has also been the subject of regular ecological monitoring surveys.
The reef reaches a maximum depth of 14 metres, with an average range of 10 to 14 metres, over coral formations that reward relaxed exploration. A few mooring buoys provide easy access, and because the site attracts fewer dive boats than many other Koh Tao locations, marine life tends to feel undisturbed. Visibility varies with weather and sea conditions.
The site is home to blue-spotted stingrays, pufferfish, parrotfish, longfin bannerfish, cuttlefish, octopus, sea turtles, and blacktip reef sharks. The season runs from January to October.
Entry is by boat with mooring buoys available, and the depth and relaxed character of the site make it suitable for certified divers at beginner level.
