Dived here today? How were conditions vs. what we showed?
Shag Rock is a rocky reef a short boat ride of 6 to 8 minutes from the launch beach. It is the most protected of the local sites, so it gives good diving when conditions elsewhere turn bad.
Depths run 8 to 16 metres, with a minimal current and visibility from 5 to 25 metres. Both sides of the reef make good dives and are linked by a swim-through cave, so they can be dived separately or combined. Beginners and experienced divers both enjoy it.
Wobbegong and bamboo sharks, eagle rays and bull rays, turtles, octopus, eels, nudibranchs, stonefish and sea urchins live here, with hard and soft corals and many tropical fish. Leopard sharks, manta rays and grey nurse sharks pass through in their seasons.
