About this site

Bird Rock lies near Miang Island in the Similan Islands archipelago, off the Phang Nga coast of southern Thailand in the Andaman Sea. The Similans are reached by boat from the mainland or by liveaboard, and this site sits among the granite boulder formations characteristic of the island chain. It reaches a maximum depth of around 30 metres and is rated an advanced dive. Divers have reported hammerhead sharks and manta rays passing the site, along with octopus, Moorish idols, redlip parrotfish, and powder blue tangs along the rock. Smaller finds such as blue dragon nudibranchs, Indian Caloria, ocellate phyllidia, and the Jolly Green Giant nudibranch have also been spotted by those working the boulders on a slower pass.
