About this site
Banco Chinchorro is a large atoll off the coast of southern Quintana Roo, in the Mexican Caribbean, protected as a biosphere reserve and reached by boat from Xcalak or Mahahual. The atoll's reefs and shallows have wrecked numerous ships over the centuries, and 40 Cannons refers to one of these scattered wreck sites within the reef structure. The area is remote compared to the mainland dive spots and typically requires a longer boat crossing to reach.
