About this site
Banco Chinchorro is a large coral atoll off the southern coast of Quintana Roo, on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, protected as a biosphere reserve. The Garden lies within this atoll system, reached by boat from the mainland or from Xcalak, a considerable distance offshore compared to the more heavily dived sites of the Riviera Maya. Chinchorro is known for its extensive reef structure and numerous wrecks scattered across its shallows and drop-offs.
