About this site
9 Mile lies off the coast of northern New South Wales near Ballina, taking its name from its approximate distance offshore, and is reached by boat from the local coastal towns along this stretch of the Australian east coast. The site sits over a rocky bottom to a maximum depth of around 27 metres and is rated a beginner dive. Nudibranchs and wobbegong sharks are common here, and divers have also reported cuttlefish, moray eels, and sea turtles. Current has been noted as a hazard at times.
