About this site
Cook Island lies just off Fingal Head in northern New South Wales, close to the border with Queensland, and forms part of Cook Island Aquatic Reserve. The site sits near the confluence of tropical and temperate currents coming down the coast, which draws divers and snorkellers to the area around the small island, and it is typically accessed by boat from nearby Tweed Heads. It is a reef dive with a maximum depth of around 16.5 metres, rated suitable for beginners. Nudibranchs and sea turtles are regularly seen on the reef, and divers have also reported crocodilefish, manta rays, nurse sharks, and reef sharks in the area.
