About this site
Abu Sawatir is a bay dive site accessed from shore, with a sandy entry that slopes gradually down to 40 metres, flanked on both sides by coral gardens reaching to around 30 metres depth. The shallowest point begins at around 5 metres, making the site suitable for all levels from Open Water upward.
The sandy bottom and coral gardens on either side support a wide range of marine life. Regular residents include large moray eels and napoleon wrasse, while dolphins, eagle rays, and sharks appear with some luck. The site is particularly noted for cryptic species hidden in the sand and reef: Red Sea walkman, stonefish, scorpionfish, pegasus, and ghost pipefish reward careful searching.
Entry and exit are made through a sandy bay, and a rope is available to assist divers when current is running. Current is generally light, though it can influence the entry and exit enough to make the rope useful. Boat access is also possible for this site.
