About this site
Aikoku Maru lies in Truk Lagoon (Chuuk Lagoon), Micronesia, one of the many Japanese vessels sunk during the US Operation Hailstone air raids in February 1944. She was a large armed merchant cruiser, and her wreck is known for a substantial cargo of ordnance, including depth charges and shells, along with deck guns still visible on the hull. The wreck lies broken and deep in the lagoon, and is generally considered a dive for more experienced divers given the depth involved. As with much of Truk Lagoon, coral growth now covers large sections of the superstructure.
