About this site
Akumal lies on the Caribbean coast of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, in Quintana Roo south of Playa del Carmen. The site is a beginner dive reaching a maximum depth of around 12 metres, making it accessible for divers early in their training. Divers have also reported hammerhead sharks in the area, though that is not something typically expected at this shallow, easygoing site.
