Baron Gautsch

The Baron Gautsch is an Austro-Hungarian passenger steamer that struck a mine and sank in 1914 off the coast near Rovinj, in the northern Adriatic. It lies at roughly 28 to 40 metres, sitting upright on the seabed, and remains one of the most well known wreck dives in Croatian waters. The hull is largely intact, with recognisable deck structures, railings, and cabins that divers can explore, and it attracts a good amount of marine growth and schooling fish that gather around the superstructure. Because of its depth and the need for good buoyancy control near the more fragile parts of the structure, it is generally considered a dive for those with some experience rather than beginners. Boats to the site typically run out of Rovinj.
