Bat Cave Cenote is one of the many cenotes found across the Yucatan Peninsula in Quintana Roo, part of the porous limestone landscape that riddles this region with sinkholes and underground rivers. These freshwater sites are typically reached by road from towns along the Riviera Maya such as Tulum or Puerto Aventuras. The site is rated a beginner dive over a cave bottom, though it reaches a maximum depth of around 119.2 metres, well beyond what most divers here would ever approach. Divers have also reported a hydrogen sulfide cloud at depth, a layer worth being aware of if venturing beyond the shallow, more accessible sections.
