About this site
The HMT Bedfordshire is a British anti-submarine trawler sunk by a German U-boat torpedo in May 1942 while operating off the North Carolina coast as part of wartime convoy escort duty. It lies in the waters near Cape Lookout, part of the cluster of World War II wrecks off the Outer Banks sometimes called the Graveyard of the Atlantic. The wreck rests broken on a sandy bottom and is considered a deeper, more advanced dive due to depth and the often limited visibility and current typical of this stretch of coast. All hands aboard were lost, and the site is treated with respect as a war grave.
