Cabeza De Mono

Cabeza de Mono (Monkey's Head) is a volcanic rock formation in the Papagayo Gulf, Costa Rica, located a short 10–20 minute boat ride from Playas del Coco. The rock takes its name from the way ocean erosion has worn it into a shape resembling a gorilla's head.

The site reaches a maximum depth of 20 metres (75 ft), with the shallowest point around 9 metres (30 ft), and the bottom is rocky. It sits just a small sand channel away from the neighbouring site of Virador.

Cabeza de Mono is regularly visited by large schools of eagle rays and stingrays passing through on their oceanic journeys, making these the signature encounters here. Visibility is great, there is no appreciable current, and the easy difficulty rating makes it accessible to beginner divers.
