About this site
Calaiza lies along the coast near Almunecar, on the Costa Tropical of Granada province in southern Spain's Andalusia region. This stretch of Mediterranean shoreline is characterized by rocky coves and small calas typical of the area, with local dive operations based out of Almunecar and nearby La Herradura. The reef is rated a beginner dive, making it accessible for those starting out along this part of the coast. Divers here have reported mauve stingers and violet sea urchins among the rocks, along with Mediterranean rainbow wrasse, ornate wrasse, ringneck blennies, striped red mullet, and the small nudibranch known as the Mediterranean violet aeolid.
