About this site
Challenger Bay sits within the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of far north Queensland, in the waters near Lizard Island. This part of the reef system is reached mainly by boat out of the Lizard Island area, a common base for exploring the surrounding coral cays and channels. The site is a beginner dive with a maximum depth of around 10 metres, making it an easy reef to explore. Divers have also reported whales passing through the bay.
