Chumphon Pinnacle

Chumphon Pinnacle is a submerged granite pinnacle off Koh Tao in Surat Thani province, on Thailand's Gulf coast, reaching a maximum depth of around 37.7 metres over a rocky bottom. It rises to within several metres of the surface and is one of the better known dive sites in the Koh Tao area, rated an intermediate dive with light current and generally great visibility. Barracuda, batfish, clownfish, fusiliers, grouper, lionfish, snapper, trevally, and whale sharks are regularly encountered here, and divers have also reported angelfish, mackerel, manta rays, octopus, pipefish, and tuna on the pinnacle. It is usually reached by boat, and because the top of the structure sits shallower than the surrounding reef that runs deeper, it offers a range of depths for divers with some experience. Some divers have also noted stronger current and the risk of nitrogen narcosis at depth on this site.
