About this site
Turneffe Atoll sits east of Belize City, a ring-shaped atoll separated from the mainland barrier reef by deeper channel water, and its edges drop off into wall formations typical of the atoll's eastern and southern rims. Cockroaches Caye is one of the small mangrove cayes scattered along the atoll, used as a reference point for nearby dive sites reached by boat from lodges on Turneffe or day trips out of Belize City or Ambergris Caye.
