About this site
The Chester A. Congdon is a wreck in Lake Superior off Isle Royale National Park, resting near Canoe Rocks. The steel freighter ran aground in fog in 1918 while carrying grain, and it broke apart and slid down a slope into deep water. The bow and stern sections lie at different depths, with the wreck reaching a maximum depth of around 33.5 metres in its more accessible sections while other parts descend further into the lake. It is considered an advanced dive due to depth, cold water temperatures, and limited visibility typical of Isle Royale wreck diving.
