About this site
Midway Atoll sits in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands, part of the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument, with Sand Island forming the main landmass and harbor area. The Corsair site takes its name from a World War II era Corsair aircraft wreck resting in the waters off Sand Island, one of several relics tied to the atoll's history as a naval air station. Divers here have reported a range of reef fish typical of these waters, including belted wrasse, blueline surgeonfish, bluespine unicornfish, elegant coris, Hawaiian gregory, Hawaiian hogfish, saddle wrasse, and spectacled parrotfish, along with areas of hump coral around the wreckage.
