About this site
Cueva de los Peces sits on the southern coast of Cuba's Zapata Peninsula, along the road between Playa Larga and Playa Girón on the Bay of Pigs. It is a natural cenote, a deep inland sinkhole connected to the sea, with the water dropping to around 70 metres before opening into a channel that leads out to a reef wall a short distance offshore. Divers commonly use it both for a swim into the sinkhole itself and as an easy shore entry point to reach the adjacent coastal reef. Divers have also reported Caribbean Christmas tree worms along the site. The location is popular partly for its convenience, being right beside the road with parking and a small restaurant nearby.
