About this site
Dalkey Island sits just off the coast of Dalkey, a seaside town south of Dublin city on the Irish Sea. The area around the island is popular with local dive clubs operating out of the Dublin Bay area, with boats launching from nearby Bulloch Harbour or Coliemore Harbour. Diving here reaches a maximum depth of around 30 metres and is rated a beginner site, though divers have reported darkness setting in below 20 metres. Currents around the island can run strong, with an ebb tide rip noted at the fort point, a flood tide current to the east of the island, and reports of currents reaching up to 4 knots around Dalkey, so timing a dive to the tide matters here.
