About this site
Dirty Rock is a dive site off Cocos Island, a remote national park island in the eastern Pacific roughly 550 kilometres off the coast of Costa Rica. It is a rocky islet and pinnacle formation known for strong currents and for attracting large schooling hammerhead sharks along with other pelagic species drawn to Cocos' offshore waters. Depths around the rock run from shallow rock structure near the surface down past 30 metres, and the site is generally considered suited to experienced divers because of the current and open-ocean conditions typical of Cocos Island. Access is only by liveaboard, since Cocos has no shore facilities and is reached by a multi-day boat crossing from the Costa Rican mainland.
