About this site
El Sahara is a dive site at Malpelo Island, a remote volcanic outcrop in the eastern Pacific off the Colombian coast, well offshore and reachable only by liveaboard. Malpelo's sites are known for big animal encounters, particularly large aggregations of hammerhead sharks along with other pelagic species drawn by the strong currents around the island. Diving here is generally considered demanding, given the open ocean conditions, depth, and current typical of this remote seamount environment.
