About this site
Chuuk Lagoon in the Federated States of Micronesia is best known for the wrecks of Operation Hailstone, the 1944 American air raid that sank much of Japan's anchored Fourth Fleet, and the Faichuk Islands sit within the western part of that same lagoon system. Weno, the main town and transport hub for Chuuk, serves as the usual base from which dive boats head out across the lagoon to the various wreck sites. The Faichuk group itself is quieter and less visited than the eastern side of the lagoon around Weno's immediate waters.
