Fumitzuki

The Fumitzuki was a Mutsuki-class Japanese destroyer sunk during Operation Hailstone in February 1944, the American carrier strike on Truk Lagoon that destroyed much of the Japanese fleet anchored there. It lies near Udot Island in the Faichuk Islands group, on the western side of Chuuk Lagoon, an area with fewer visiting divers than the main wreck sites off Weno. The destroyer rests broken on the lagoon floor, with depths in the range typical of Truk's deeper wrecks, and its stern section is separated from the rest of the hull. Guns and depth charge equipment can still be made out among the wreckage. Because it sits farther from the main dive base and requires a longer boat run, it is visited less often than wrecks like the Fujikawa Maru or Nippo Maru.
