Fundo Gap is a reef dive site on Pemba Island, in the Pemba Channel off the Tanzanian coast, known for strong currents and high marine diversity.
The reef reaches a maximum depth of 40 m, with a bottom type of reef and good vertical relief typical of Pemba's channel sites. Visibility is consistently great, making it well suited to spotting open-water and reef species across the full water column.
The site holds a rich mix of large pelagic and reef animals, including dogtooth tuna, giant trevally, Napoleon wrasse, titan triggerfish, white tip reef sharks, and green turtles. The best diving conditions fall between July and October and again in January and February, with water temperatures ranging from 24 to 29 °C.
Strong currents run through Fundo Gap and are the site's principal hazard; an intermediate certification and prior experience with current diving are required. The currents also drive the site's productivity, drawing in the larger pelagic species regularly encountered here.
