About this site
The General was rammed and sunk in the St. Mary's River in 1910, spending 7 years submerged before being raised for further use by the Durocher Company of Detour. She later burned off Frying Pan Island and lies today in water about 15 to 25 feet deep. The engine, boiler and major machinery were salvaged. What remains are the hull and some portions of the cabins. Near the stern is a very large steering quadrant that was connected to the vessel’s steering wheel. This site is usually sheltered from inclement weather. Lies in about 7.6 m; sank 1930.
