About this site
Gladden Spit sits off Stann Creek District on Belize's Caribbean coast, where the reef shelf drops away toward open water. It is rated an advanced dive over a reef bottom, with the drop-off and open water exposure putting it beyond a casual outing. Jacks and amberjack, snapper, and whale sharks are regularly encountered here, the whale sharks drawn in around the seasonal spawning aggregations of reef fish along the spit. Divers have also reported bull sharks, dolphins, hammerhead sharks, and reef sharks passing through the area.
