About this site
Gladden Spit lies off the coast of Belize, at the edge of the barrier reef where the shelf drops away into deep water, and is part of the Gladden Spit and Silk Cayes Marine Reserve. It is best known for whale shark aggregations that gather to feed on the spawn released by snapper during certain lunar periods in spring, drawing divers hoping to encounter them in open water. Diving here reaches a maximum depth of around 18 metres and is considered an intermediate level dive.
