Taketomi Island sits just southwest of Ishigaki in Okinawa's Yaeyama island group, part of Japan's southernmost prefecture. The coast here is fringed by coral reef, and dive sites along its east side are typically reached by short boat trips from Ishigaki or from Taketomi itself.
