About this site
HMS Perseus was a British submarine lost off Kefalonia in the Ionian Sea in late 1941, with the wreck lying on the seabed off the island's coast. The site gained particular attention because of the survival story of one crew member, Stoker John Capes, who was reported to have escaped the sunken submarine and swum to shore. The wreck rests at depth well beyond recreational limits, which has made it a technical diving target rather than a routine dive. Its exact condition and orientation on the seabed are not something covered by general accounts of the site.
