About this site
HMT Justicia lies off Malin Head on the north coast of County Donegal, Ireland. She was originally laid down as the liner Statendam before being requisitioned as a troopship during the First World War, and was torpedoed by German U-boats in 1918 while sailing in convoy, sinking after a running battle over several days. The wreck is one of the larger ones in Irish waters, lying broken on the seabed at a depth commonly cited around 30 metres. It draws technical and wreck-focused divers to this stretch of the Donegal coast because of its size and history.
