Jardim das Gorgonias lies along the rocky coastline near Sesimbra, a fishing town on the Setubal peninsula south of Lisbon, in a stretch of Atlantic water known for its rocky reefs and gorgonian growth. The site sits within the area influenced by the Arrabida coast, where cold, nutrient rich water supports dense sea fan and coral formations on granite outcrops. It reaches a maximum depth of around 10 metres and is rated a beginner dive, making it an accessible spot to see the gorgonian gardens the site is named for.
