About this site
Kamese (亀瀬) is a boat-dived pinnacle south of Mageshima off Tanegashima in Kagoshima Prefecture, about 45 minutes by boat, with a maximum depth of 15 m. Sea turtles have gathered here since the days when local fishermen worked from dugout boats; swimming offshore at 15 m, turtles rest on the bottom like scattered boulders, push their heads into holes in the small rocks and cruise in formation near the surface. Some approach divers out of curiosity. Intermediate and above.
